World Cup Winners N’Golo Kante And Olivier Giroud Pictured Back In Training – Photos
The Blues lost 2-0 in the Community Shield to Premier League champions Manchester City on Sunday, but were boosted by the return of several key players to the fold.
Alongside France stars Kante and Giroud – who both started the World Cup final win over Croatia last month – Belgium duo Eden Hazard and Michy Batshuayi and England veteran Gary Cahill returned to Cobham to train under Maurizio Sarri for the first time.
However, wantaway goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois was nowhere to be seen as reports claim he is skipping training in a bid to force through a transfer to Real Madrid.
The giant goalkeeper, who won the Golden Glove award at the World Cup, wants to return to Spain where his two children live with his ex-girlfriend, having spent three years on loan at Atletico Madrid between 2011 and 2014 But with only two days left until the transfer window shuts for Premier League clubs, the Blues are running out of time to secure a replacement for the 26-year-old.
Ruben Loftus-Cheek, despite also reaching the last weekend of the World Cup with England, returned to training early as he looks to force himself into the first team plans of Sarri.
The midfielder, who was loaned to Crystal Palace last season, featured in the friendly with Arsenal last week but did not make the squad for the loss to City at Wembley. He is being linked with a return to Palace ahead of deadline day, but is set to feature in tonight’s friendly with Lyon at Stamford Bridge.
Sarri is likely to field a completely different XI from the strong looking line-up that played on Sunday, keeping his first choice players fresh for Saturday’s Premier League opener away to Huddersfield. But it is possible Hazard, Kante, Giroud, Batshuayi and Cahill all play tonight as Sarri looks to get them match sharp as soon as possible.
